EigenLayer, a prominent platform in the crypto community, faced a major security breach when their official Twitter account was compromised.

Hackers used the account to post malicious tweets containing phishing links, resulting in significant financial losses for victims who fell prey to the scam.

Reports indicate that victims lost approximately $1 million worth of various wrapped ETH tokens, including swETH, mETH, and eETH. One unfortunate individual reportedly lost $800,000 worth of mETH after unknowingly signing a phishing permit.

In response to the breach, EigenLayer swiftly initiated a response, beginning with containment efforts within 20 minutes of detecting the compromise. They enlisted the help of security consultants and managed to secure the account by 11:00am ET the same day.

EigenLayer assured its community that an extensive internal investigation found no evidence of breaches across their systems or user data. They highlighted robust security measures, such as passkey 2FA and delegated access controls, which showed no signs of compromise.

Moving forward, EigenLayer is focused on restoring full access to their Twitter account and has redirected official communications to @eigen_labs until further notice. They remain committed to investigating the incident thoroughly, including potential avenues of compromise via social engineering or phishing attacks.

Whale Makes Significant Investment In EigenLayer’s native token, $EIGEN, EmberCN Confirms

In a separate development, EmberCN reported a significant investment in EigenLayer’s native token, $EIGEN, by a whale or institution. This entity invested $32.45 million in USDC to acquire 8.917 million $EIGEN tokens between October 3 and October 15, at an average price of $3.64 per token. Multiple addresses associated with this investment were observed depositing $EIGEN into EigenLayer’s staking contract, facilitated through cross-chain transfers via the DLN tool.
