Web3 gaming studio Drift Zone secured a $190,000 grant from the Sei network to integrate its ecosystem on the blockchain.
According to a Nov. 15 announcement, Drift Zone would bring over 500,000 players active in its Drift Zone: Arena Telegram minigame to the Sui network. Jason Lim, Global Gaming Lead at the Sei Foundation explained that the studio develops crypto games that do not feel like crypto games:
“What Drift Zone is doing just makes sense. […] They’re taking games that already drive massive player engagement across Asia and enhancing the experience with Sei’s technology. By building on Sei, Drift Zone can deliver seamless, high-performance gameplay, allowing players to stay fully immersed without needing to think about the blockchain running in the background. When players can just enjoy the game, adoption follows naturally.”
Drift Zone is focused on enhancing the already-popular Gacha mechanics by providing on-chain monetary rewards. The integration of the studio’s ecosystem with the Sei network allows the studio to expand in the Gacha game market — which which drove over $4.4B in revenue across Asia last year. Vedran Sisak, founder and CEO of Drift Zone said:
“These games are already incredibly sticky, but players never see any real value from their participation. We’re changing that equation. We’re evolving the entire format by adding real rewards to mechanics players already love. With Sei’s technology, we can deliver this experience at the massive scale these markets demand.”
Per the announcement, Drift Zone: Arena development is progressing rapidly, with players now being able to claim their rewards directly to their Sei wallet and verify their achievements on-chain. The studio also already launched the demo of Drift Zone: Origins on the Sei network.
The Drift Zone: Origins game will take full advantage of Sei network’s 380-millisecond block finality and process up to 12,500 transactions per second in an attempt to be as responsive as a web2 game. This will be a game collectible auto-battler that is deeply integrated into the already-established ecosystem.
